Thailand has about 35,000 temples and a vast diversity of animals. This country is home to the world’s smallest mammal, the bumblebee bat, as well as the world’s largest fish, the whale shark. You can also find several species of snakes here, including the king cobra, which is considered the longest venomous snake in the world.
A curious fact about Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, is that it has another, much longer name that is no longer in common use: Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit. It means "City of Angels, Great City of Immortals, Magnificent City of the Nine Gems, Seat of the King, City of Royal Palaces, Home of the Incarnate Gods, Built by Vishvakarman under Indra's command."
Thai people bow their heads to show respect to older people or those with more authority. In fact, the head plays such an important role in their culture that it’s forbidden to touch someone’s head, even a child’s.
Do you like orchids? This flower is not only considered Thailand’s national flower, but you can also find about 1,500 species of orchids in this country. This has made Thailand the world’s largest exporter of orchids.
There are approximately 5,000 elephants in Thailand, and it's estimated that over half of them are domesticated.
Did you know that Thailand is considered the country of the Siamese? There used to be around 23 types of Siamese cats, but now only 6 remain.
Many buildings in Thailand were originally built on stilts over the water, and later the canals were filled in to become streets.

Did you know that Red Bull is an Austrian drink, but it has Thai origins? Dietrich Mateschitz created the drink based on a formula by Chaleo Yoovidhya. *Krating Daeng* is the name of the Thai drink that inspired the creation of Red Bull.
Thailand’s national sport is Muay Thai. In this sport, all parts of the body can be used to attack.
The red color of the flag symbolizes the blood shed; white represents Buddhism; and blue stands for the monarchy.
Unlike other Asian cultures, Thais see tattoos as a symbol of strength.
At the Wat Traimit Temple, there is a golden Buddha statue over 3 meters tall. This is the largest solid gold Buddha statue in the world and weighs more than 5.5 tons.
