15 Curious facts about animals

Do ants not sleep? Although several people claimed that ants didn't sleep, a study from the University of South Florida and the University of Texas in Arlington concluded that ants sleep approximately 4 hours per day. Probably the misunderstanding that they don't sleep is because these 4 hours are distributed in short naps of approximately 1 minute each.


Have you ever wondered how elephants communicate? They communicate via seismic signals at distances beyond the reach of sound. Females are more sensitive to detect these signals.


Did you know that not only females can have offspring? Male seahorses are responsible for incubating the eggs of their offspring.


A curious fact about bustards is that they consume a toxic compound to appear more attractive. And now you're probably wondering, why would they do this? It turns out that although this compound is poisonous to many species, for bustards, it has an anthelmintic and antibacterial effect.


Are you someone who enjoys sleeping? As much as you may like to sleep, you can't beat koalas; these adorable animals sleep between 18 and 22 hours a day.


Snails can hibernate for up to 3 years!


Do you know which mammal emits the loudest sound in the world? It's the blue whale, its sound has a reach of 188 decibels.


Horned lizards are capable of shooting blood jets from their eyes to defend themselves. These blood shots can reach up to 1 and a half meters away.


The smallest chameleon in the world is the Brookesia nana. This species inhabits Madagascar and can measure up to 2.5 centimeters. A curiosity about this species is that it doesn't change color as chameleons usually do.


Condylura cristata is a species of mole that, if you've seen Stranger Things, bears quite a resemblance to the demogorgon monster. These moles are blind and use this peculiar flower-shaped structure they have at the tip of their nose to navigate by touch. The starry nose of this mole is considered one of the most sensitive structures in the world.


This peculiar animal feeds on mollusks, worms, small invertebrates, and aquatic insects.


Have you ever wondered which animal has the largest heart in the world? The heart of the blue whale weighs between 180 and 200 kilograms.


The oldest turtle in the world is a giant tortoise from the Seychelles called Jonathan, who is currently 192 years old.
